Pastor Lungu of Kanyuka Village during Zambia Independence day this year in USA with Frackson Sakala see picture on www.mynsima.com. Read what they were discussing below.

Zambian  independence in USA

It is not hard to know who you are and what defines you. Two Zambians celebrated Zambian independence in a classic and unusual way in Queen Creek Arizona. Rev. Dr. Edward Kavimba Lungu called Frackson Sakala two days before 24 October 2009 the day of Independence for all Zambians. Mr. Sakala thought it was just one of those calls he receives from Mr. Lungu weekly. This time he was wrong

Mr. Lungu informed Sakala to meet in one of the restraints and celebrated Zambian Independence Day. Mr. Sakala agreed. On 24th October Saturday afternoon Mr. Lungu and Mr. Sakala met to eat Asia American food in one of the restraints around Wal-Mart in Queen Creek along Hunt Highway. The food was really good but the two guys did not eat a lot because most of the time they were discussing and telling stories about life and Zambian people. People in the restaurant had no idea what the two black men were talking about in fact they did not know their names and nationality but definitely knew they were from Africa because of the accent. Both men graduated from Chassa boys secondary school in Eastern province of Zambia though they never knew or met each other in Zambia. Mr. Sakala comes from Casera area in Luangwa valley while Mr. Lungu comes from Kanyuka Village in Ndake area few miles from Nyimba District. The two guys are members of the Reformed Church in Zambia and Moyo Africa a non-profit organization trying to raise funds and other items for the people in Zambia.

These two men knew who they were first even before they met. They knew they are Zambians because they were born and grew up in Zambia. Though they live in America permanently they still have a connection to their original land. They even thought of running for public office in Zambia one day and the big question was “How.” None of these men are members of any political party in Zambia though both of their parents were members of UNIP and grew up in UNIP regime and even supported the formation of MMD party. Pastor Lungu especially supported UNIP until MMD came into power. Mr. Lungu even took part in the original formation of MMD. He was one of the pastors that had a conference in Mulungushi and even went to state house and shook the former president hand before the meeting ended. Pastor Lungu was one of those pastors and delegates that sang in front of KK “We Shall Overcome song” while the big man was looking. Nearly all the people in Zambia welcomed the spirit of MMD movement because UNIT was seen as outdated and out of touch party. People wanted change whatever that meant. Praise to God that our big and wise man welcomed that MMD spirit and signed without causing problems or advocating war. He took his pen, put it in his hand and signed that Zambia would be a multiparty country. Apart from being the first president of Zambia this too is going to be the definitive event in Zambian history and in the life of his excellence the president Kenneth Kaunda.

What defines people is their common source and location. Yes their origin. Two men in a foreign land like many people do while in a strange place remembered their common history. When they sat down in that restaurant they knew that thousands of other Zambians were doing the same thing in Zambia and the rest of the world. They were sharing in the history of the land though physically they did not take part in the struggle for freedom. Yes they knew their forefathers did fight and won against the colonial masters. Yes Zambia is free from oppression and oppressors as we know but it is true to say Zambia and many Zambians are still under known oppressor--poverty. Every time Mr.Sakala and Mr. Lungu call home to talk to their families they are reminded how deep poverty has gone in the land they love. They send some money home but not enough for everyone. All these men can do right now is to pray for a miracle from God to intervene in the lives of relatives at home. Only God can restore and install a new heart and life in the lives of ordinary people because there is no impossibility in the house of God. He did it in the people of the Old Testament and He can do it in the people of Zambia. After the meeting Mr. Lungu went to work and Mr. Sakala went home.

Q’s: Who is Yulu Member Bernard Kavimba Tembo?

Yulu Member Bernard Kavimba Tembo was the Seventh being the last born child of Mr.Katyola and Mrs Kalele Tembo of Mulira Village, Chief Ndake, in Petauke District now Nyimba in the Eastern Province of Zambia. He was born in 1917 at Mulira Village. Born in the family of seven (three boys and four girls).

Mr Kavimba Yulu Member was brought up in the maternal line of parentage.

Mr Kavimba Yulu Member was called Member because of his cleanliness. He was married to four wives.

I recalled: “Yulu Members ambitions in his late sixties was to furtherning up his academic education and be able to speak fluent English in that he enrolled at Mulira Primary School as night scholar in 1970’s.

Yulu Members was an enthusiastic Christian with the Reformed Church in Zambia in his early years and attain the position of an Elder. He later fell off due to the nature of the work he used to do. As Daddy, Mr Kavimba whenever he arrives home from long trips, he used to tell us to kill a chicken immediately as a sign of happiness. But do not make a mistake of not doing so, because following morning he will only say I told you yesterday not today.

Mr Yulu Member was a subsistent farmer and he used to grow crops such as Tobacco, Maize, Groundnuts, Millet, Sugar canes, and Sweet potatoes etc. He used to keep animals such as cows, goats dogs and also chickens.
